Great news for fans of historical anime! Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will officially premiere in 2026. The announcement came with a beautiful new “super teaser” visual shared by the animation studio Science SARU.
The anime is based on the award-winning manga A Witch’s Life in Mongolia and will mix history, drama, and strong female leads, all set against the rich and powerful backdrop of the 13th-century Mongol Empire.
Jaadugar: Teaser Visual and Release
In late June 2025, the official website revealed a stunning teaser visual showing a starry night over the Mongolian steppe, drawn in Science SARU’s colorful and unique style. This “super teaser” confirmed that the anime will air on TV Asahi in 2026.
It will also be featured at Anime Expo 2025, where producer Go Inagaki will lead a special panel.
The anime is based on the historical manga A Witch’s Life in Mongolia (Japanese title: Tenmaku no Jādūgaru), created by Tomato Soup. It has been serialized on Akita Shoten’s Souffle website since September 2021, and as of April 2025, five volumes have been released.
The manga has been well-received, ranking first in the 2023 Kono Manga ga Sugoi! (Women’s category) and earning Manga Taisho Award nominations in both 2023 and 2024. Yen Press currently holds the English license.

Plot Overview
Set during the late Islamic Golden Age, Jaadugar tells the story of Fatima, a young woman who is enslaved in the city of Tus. In secret, she studies forbidden books and gains deep knowledge. When the Mongols invade, she is taken captive.
But instead of remaining powerless, her intelligence helps her rise to the court of Töregene, the wife of Great Khan Ögedei. Using her sharp mind and education, Fatima carefully navigates palace politics and uses her so-called “witchcraft” to shape the future of the empire.
The word Jaadugar means “magician” or “witch” in Persian, but in Fatima’s case, her true strength comes from her intellect, not from magic.
