Netmarble’s The King of Fighters AFK Launches on September

Netmarble officially confirmed that The King of Fighters AFK will be released across the globe on September 4, 2025. The title has attracted major attention, securing over 1.5 million pre-registrations before launch.

Those who sign up early through the official site, Google Play, or the App Store will unlock exclusive rewards, including 3,000 Summon Tickets, the Unique-grade fighter Vice, and even a guaranteed Legendary character chosen from a lineup of eight well-known fighters.

What sets this new entry apart is its retro-inspired presentation. Fighters from the King of Fighters universe are reimagined in nostalgic pixel art, drawing inspiration from SNK’s classic KOF R-2 on the Neo Geo Pocket Color. The result blends old-school charm with modern mobile gameplay.

As an AFK RPG, the game is designed with fast-paced progression in mind. Players can assemble teams of five fighters, develop their skills, and engage in dynamic battles while also benefiting from idle mechanics that keep rewards flowing even when offline. Strategic depth comes from managing deck setups, character roles, and formations—allowing both casual players and competitive fans to find their own playstyle.

Early impressions from the game’s limited Early Access runs in Canada, Indonesia, and the Philippines suggest that fans are enjoying its accessible combat, faithful adaptation of the series’ spirit, and engaging collection mechanics. With its mix of nostalgia, strategy, and convenience, Netmarble is aiming to expand KOF’s appeal beyond traditional fighting game audiences.
