Azur Lane: Slow Ahead! Announces Second Season

The much-loved series that first aired in early 2021 is set to return with a second season in 2026. The announcement was made on September 7, 2025, through Anime Trending and Crunchyroll, and came with a special treat for fans. A new illustration by Nana Mori, who is also the character designer and chief animation director, was revealed and perfectly captured the cheerful and playful mood viewers enjoyed in the first season.

The story is based on Hori’s four-panel manga, launched in 2018, which itself belongs to the wider franchise that began with the 2017 mobile game. While the game focuses on battles between ship girls and the Sirens, this adaptation takes a lighter approach. Instead of action, it highlights everyday school life, laughter, and bonds of friendship between characters like Javelin, Ayanami, Laffey, and Z23.

Back in season one, fans enjoyed many fun-filled episodes showing everything from cooking and festivals to lazy days and pillow fights. It even received an extra episode in the summer, which carried on the same warm and lighthearted spirit.

With Shunji Maki returning as director, scriptwriter Yū Satō joined by Hotaru Asafuji, and Nana Mori’s bigger creative role, the production team is ready to deliver another round of cozy and heartwarming stories when the second season sets sail in 2026.
