Crunchyroll has announced its acquisition of worldwide theatrical rights, excluding Asia, for the upcoming anime movie Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to Be Loved. Animated by Kyoto Animation and based on Coolkyousinnjya’s manga, the film will be shown in North America in Japanese with English subtitles. It’s scheduled to debut in Japan on June 27th.
Crunchyroll Secures Global Rights for Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid Film
This new feature-length film runs for 105 minutes (1 hour, 45 minutes) and picks up directly after the conclusion of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid Season 2. The narrative centers on the young dragon, Kanna Kamui, as she confronts a difficult decision: remain with her human family or return to the Dragon World, as commanded by her father, Kamun Kamui, the leader of the Chaos Forces.

The official synopsis reveals a disruption to the peaceful lives of Miss Kobayashi, Tohru, Kanna, and Iruru with Kamun Kamui’s arrival. He insists Kanna return to the Dragon World to rectify a past error. With conflict brewing between Chaos and Harmony, Kanna is torn between her loyalty to her friends and her father’s demands, aiming to unite the two worlds. However, Miss Kobayashi is determined to keep Kanna and strives to mend the fractured relationship between Kanna and Kamui. As dragons clash, Iruru uncovers a hidden force orchestrating the war, raising the question of whether they can prevent total destruction.
Tatsuya Ishihara directed the film, with Coolkyousinnjya providing the original story and Kyoto Animation once again handling the animation production. The main trailer showcased the ending song, “Our Days” by Sachiko Kobayashi, while another featured the opening theme, “Parade of Tears” by fhána. Both seasons of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid are available for streaming on Crunchyroll.
