Dragon Ball DAIMA Awarded Best Anime Series of 2025

Dragon Ball DAIMA won the Best Anime Series title at the 5th annual Astra TV Awards, taking place on June 10th, 2025. This was a significant win for this historic franchise, with Dragon Ball DAIMA airing from October 2024 to February 2025. The show was unique because Goku and his friends became kids in the plot and followed an interesting storyline.

DAIMA was created by the late Akira Toriyama, and it combined nostalgia and new storytelling to easily win over fans, which probably helped it with the judges.

Dragon Ball DAIMA: Astra TV Awards

At the Astra TV Awards hosted by the Hollywood Creative Alliance, Dragon Ball DAIMA beat five strong anime shows to win Best Anime Series. Its competitors included Dandadan, Fire Force Season 3, Lazarus, Solo Leveling Season 2, and The Apothecary Diaries Season 2. This was only the second time the award was given, with Solo Leveling winning it last year in 2024.

Fans and critics were thrilled about DAIMA’s win. Many praised the series on Reddit, saying various appreciative lines to the franchise. Even those who weren’t sure about DAIMA at first admitted it had a strong story and a great mix of action and nostalgia.

Beyond DAIMA: Other Award-Winning Titles

Dragon Ball DAIMA walked away with the top prize for anime, but the Best Lead Voice-Over Performance was not awarded to Dragon Ball DAIMA, nor to Stephanie Nadolny, who voiced young Goku. Stephanie Nadolny was nominated, but Aleks Le won for his role as Sung Jin-woo in Solo Leveling Season 2.

Aleks Le, who also won at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards, wore the moment proudly, stating it was the first time in a major Hollywood award show that an anime voice actor received a trophy.

Another notable voice was Alex Borstein for her contributions in the Family Guy Holiday Special, showing how the ceremony recognized both anime and mainstream animation excellence.

Apart from anime, many other big shows were also awarded at the event. The Studio (Apple TV+) won Best Comedy Series, while Severance (also from Apple TV+) took home Best Drama Series.

Adolescence on Netflix won Best Limited Series, and Invincible (Prime Video) grabbed the award for Best Animated Series. It was a strong mix of popular shows across different streaming platforms.
