Watching Gintama can be tricky, even for anime lovers. There are hundreds of episodes, many seasons with different names, plus movies and special episodes (OVAs). It’s easy to get lost and not know where to start or what to watch next.
But don’t worry! This simple guide will show you the right order to watch everything, from the very first episode to the final movie. It also points out what you can skip to enjoy the story without getting confused.
Gintama Watch Order: What to Watch
Here’s the best order to watch Gintama, mixing release order and story order so everything makes sense:
Gintama (Episodes 1–57)
Start with these episodes to meet the main characters and get into the world of Gintama.
Gintama: The Movie
This movie is a remake of episodes 58–61 with way better animation. You can skip those episodes and watch the movie instead.
Gintama (Episodes 62–201)
Keep going with the original series. Things start getting more serious (and hilarious).
Gintama’ (Episodes 202–252)
The next season continues the story smoothly, just under a slightly different title.
Gintama’ Enchōsen (Episodes 253–265)
Short but important season that leads into future arcs.
Gintama Movie 2: Be Forever Yorozuya
This is a canon movie and part of the actual story, so don’t skip it!
Gintama° (Episodes 266–316)
A major season with intense story arcs and emotional moments.
Gintama. Porori-hen (Episodes 329–341)
This arc is a bit lighter but should be watched before finishing Gintama.
Pro tip: skip the first 2 minutes of episode 329 to avoid spoilers.
Back to Gintama° (Episodes 292–295)
After Porori-hen, go back and finish these skipped episodes—they make sense now.
Gintama Love Potion OVAs (2 episodes)
These are short specials based on manga stories. Optional, but fun.
Gintama. (Episodes 317–328)
The story continues and starts heading toward the final arc.
Silver Soul Arc – Part 1 (Episodes 342–353)
This kicks off the big final battle.
Silver Soul Arc – Part 2 (Episodes 354–367)
The climax of the entire series. Emotional and action-packed.
Gintama: The Semi-Final (2 episodes)
A short prequel that leads directly into the last movie.
Gintama: The Final
The epic finale. This movie wraps up everything beautifully.

What You Can Skip
You can safely skip episodes 1 and 2 since they are mostly lighthearted introductions and don’t have any impact on the main story. They were created just for fun and celebration. Episodes 58 to 61 can also be skipped because they are fully covered in Gintama: The Movie, which has better animation and pacing.
Other than that, Gintama has very few filler episodes. Almost all of the series follow the manga, so most episodes are part of the main story and worth watching.
