It has been nearly a year since Jujutsu Kaisen, one of the most successful modern shonen manga, came to an end in Weekly Shonen Jump. The series, written and illustrated by Gege Akutami, ran for six years and became a global hit thanks to its dark fantasy setting, complex characters, and fast-paced action. While the finale divided fans—some praising its boldness while others felt unsatisfied—the ending marked the close of a defining era in manga. But Akutami is far from done. The creator has already lined up a brand-new project that is set to debut later this year.
Gege Akutami’s New Manga Set for September 2025 Release
According to information shared by the reliable leaker @MangaMoguraRE on X, Akutami’s next manga will launch in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 41, which is scheduled to release on September 8, 2025. The series is reportedly titled Mojuro, though the official English name has yet to be confirmed. What makes the debut stand out is the scale of the opening chapter—spanning 54 pages, far larger than a typical first installment in Jump. This signals Shueisha’s confidence in Akutami’s return and sets high expectations for the series.
A New Role for Akutami with Yuji Iwasaki as Illustrator
Interestingly, Akutami will not be handling the illustrations this time. Instead, Yuji Iwasaki, known for his work on Cypher Academy, will take on the role of artist, while Akutami focuses solely on writing. This is a notable change from Jujutsu Kaisen, where Akutami worked on both story and art under demanding weekly schedules. Many fans see this as a positive shift, since it allows Akutami to concentrate fully on world-building and storytelling without being restricted by strict deadlines.
While an official announcement from Shueisha is still pending, it is widely believed that the news originated from the preview section at the end of Shonen Jump Issue 40, which hits shelves on September 1, 2025. These previews often reveal the lineup for the following issue, making the leak credible. Once officially confirmed, international fans can expect to read Mojuro digitally through Manga Plus, Viz Media, and the Shonen Jump Plus app.
