Good news for fans of Kaiju No. 8! The compilation film, Kaiju No. 8: Mission Recon, is now available to stream on Crunchyroll. This movie, which first premiered in Japan on March 28 and in North American theaters on April 13, offers a variety of subtitle and dubbing options.

Kaiju No. 8: Mission Recon provides an action-packed recap of Season One of the anime. It also includes an exclusive new episode titled “Hoshina’s Day Off.”

The film covers the main story of Kafka Hibino, who works in monster disposal in a Japan plagued by Kaiju. After reconnecting with his childhood friend Mina Ashiro, a prominent member of the anti-Kaiju Defense Force, Kafka decides to pursue his dream of joining the Force. However, his plans take an unexpected turn when he transforms into the powerful Kaiju No. 8. With the help of his colleague Reno Ichikawa, Kafka tries to keep his identity a secret while aiming to pass the Defense Force exam and fight alongside Mina. A critical decision arises when an intelligent Kaiju attacks a Defense Force base, putting Kafka in a challenging situation.

The new special episode, “Hoshina’s Day Off,” follows Reno and Iharu as they try to figure out what Hoshina does on his rare day off from Defense Force training. Their attempt to tail him leads to some surprising developments.

About the Series

The original Kaiju No. 8 manga by Naoya Matsumoto is serialized in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ digital manga magazine, with VIZ Media publishing the English version. The Kaiju No. 8 TV anime is directed by Shigeyuki Miya and Tomomi Kamiya at Production I.G. Ichiro Okouchi handles the series composition, Tetsuya Nishio is the chief animation director and character designer, Mahiro Maeda is responsible for the Kaiju design, Shinji Kimura serves as art director, and Yuta Bandoh composes the music. Crunchyroll also streams the first season of the anime with a wide range of subtitle and dub options.
