The Pokémon Company has officially announced the release date for its highly anticipated title, Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Set to launch in October 2025, the game will be available on both the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
This cross-generational release serves a purpose in trying to cover a wider variety of players and thus becomes accessible to present-day Switch owners, along with the new one if they intend to buy it, made possible by the increased capabilities of the new hardware.
Release Date and Key Developments
Pokémon Legends: Z-A is scheduled for release on October 16, 2025, for both the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2. While it won’t be a launch title for the new console, it will be available shortly after its debut. Digital pre-orders will commence on June 5 via the Nintendo eShop, with physical edition pre-orders starting on July 23.
To build anticipation, a special Pokémon Presents streaming event is slated for July 22, where The Pokémon Company is expected to unveil new details and features of the game
The game marks the return of Mega Evolutions, a feature last prominently seen in Pokémon X and Y, and reintroduces AZ, a significant character from those titles.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A builds upon the open-world explorations and real-time battle mechanics introduced in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Players will roam about in between an urban world and a nature-themed one, with the famous Prism Tower right at the center of the city. The battle system trades turns for positioning and timing on top of real-time battles, and this game also introduces starters of Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile.
Combining classic concepts with the series’ innovative mechanics has surely created a spectacle that will bring fresh breath to both old-time series fans and those just entering the Pokémon world for the very first time.
