Almost two years after its initial teaser, a video game adaptation of the popular Shangri-La Frontier series has officially been announced for iOS and Android platforms. Titled Shangri-La Frontier: The Seven Colossi, this fully 3D game is being developed by Netmarble Nexus and aims to immerse players in the rich world crafted by Katarina’s novels and C2C’s anime adaptation.

For those unfamiliar with the series, Shangri-La Frontier began as a web novel, later adapted into a manga by Ryosuke Fuji, and most recently, an anime series. The anime, directed by Toshiyuki Kubooka (Handyman Saitou in Another World) at studio C2C, features Kazuyuki Fudeyasu (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime) on series composition, Ayumi Kurashima (Devilman Crybaby) handling character designs, and MONACA (NieR:Automata Ver1.1a) composing the music.
Crunchyroll streams the anime, describing its premise as a near-future world where traditional display-screen games are considered “retro” and anything not utilizing state-of-the-art VR technology is deemed a “crap game.” Amidst a flood of these lower-quality titles, “crap-game hunters” emerge – individuals who dedicate themselves to clearing them. Our protagonist, Rakuro Hizutome, is one such hunter.
His next target is Shangri-La Frontier itself, a revered “god-tier game” boasting a massive player base of thirty million. As Rakuro delves into this expansive virtual world, forming online friendships and encountering fierce rivals, his fate, along with that of countless other players, begins to intertwine and transform. Shangri-La Frontier: The Seven Colossi aims to capture this thrilling essence, allowing players to forge their own paths within this captivating universe.
