During a recent Media Q&A session, the production team behind the popular anime Solo Leveling offered insights into the potential for a third season. Aniplex producer Sota Furuhashi expressed his own eagerness for Solo Leveling Season 3 but suggested a possible wait until around 2028.
Solo Leveling Season 3 Release?
He cited the immense effort involved in animating the first two seasons, totaling 220,000 frames, and expressed a desire to give the animators some “breathing room.” However, Furuhashi indicated that the ultimate decision rests with A-1 Pictures and animation producer Atsushi Kaneko.
Kaneko responded playfully to this, acknowledging the difficulty of the question and stating his own desire to see the story continue. He also reflected on the global impact of Solo Leveling, emphasizing the energy and diversity of its international fanbase. Drawing a parallel to the widespread appeal of Dragon Ball and Goku’s Spirit Bomb technique, Kaneko suggested that the collective enthusiasm and support of Solo Leveling fans worldwide will ultimately determine if a third season is produced.
“I think that’s the toughest question I’ve had tonight. I think more than anyone, I am anxiously awaiting a Season 3! But in truth, between Season 1 and Season 2, 220,000 frames of animation were created, & of course, I’d love to give the animators a little breathing room. So, if it were up to me, I’d say let’s wait until the next Olympics to see what’s going to happen with a Season 3. But to get to that 220,001st frame of animation, I think that’s up to more up to Kaneko-san and A-1 Pictures.”

This sentiment echoes a recent Reddit AMA where both producers used the Spirit Bomb analogy. Crunchyroll CEO Rahul Purini’s comments about creators wanting to work on many projects and the need to find the right time for production further support the idea that A-1 Pictures’ schedule will be a significant factor.
The Q&A also touched on the complexities of globalizing the series, including the decision to include both Japanese and original Korean names in the Japanese dubs, a move that initially faced resistance due to the added workload.
