TAAF, which began as an evolution of the Tokyo Anime Award in 2014, is organized by the Tokyo Anime Award Festival Executive Committee, the Association of Japanese Animations, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. The upcoming 2026 event will mark the festival’s 13th installment.
Its core mission is to cultivate emerging talent, advance anime culture and industry, and boost tourism in Tokyo, operating under the motto, “TOKYO is the HUB of contemporary ANIMATION.” The festival is renowned for showcasing exceptional and original animated works from across the globe in Tokyo.

Furthermore, the Competition section for TAAF 2026 is currently open for submissions. Animated works completed on or after January 1, 2024, are eligible. The competition welcomes participants of all nationalities, both professionals and amateurs. The deadline for short animations (under 30 minutes) is October 31, while feature-length animations (over 60 minutes) can be submitted until November 10.
