Vinland Saga Manga Ends on July 25
Creator Makoto Yukimura shared a message with fans, apologizing for the delay and explaining that he needs more time to finish the story properly. He described the last chapter as “tough” to create, both in terms of its emotional weight and the effort it requires.
Yukimura also promised that he’s working hard to make sure the final installment is meaningful and satisfying for readers who have followed Thorfinn’s journey from the beginning.
Yukimura has said that the story has reached its natural conclusion. Over the years, he took several breaks to maintain the story’s quality, including one just before the final chapter.

Vinland Saga’s Journey So Far
Vinland Saga started in Weekly Shōnen Magazine in April 2005 and later moved to Monthly Afternoon in December of the same year. The story follows Thorfinn, a Viking boy who grows from a revenge-driven warrior into a man searching for peace.
Inspired by Norse history, Yukimura even visited Scandinavia for research. The manga has 28 volumes and over 7 million copies sold as of June 2024. It won major awards like the 2009 Japan Media Arts Festival Grand Prize and the 2012 Kodansha Manga Award.
The anime, released in 2019 (Wit Studio) and 2023 (MAPPA), was also a big hit. Yukimura said the story is now complete and is working hard on the final chapter.
