J.C. Staff, the animation studio behind the second season, will return to produce the new season, while Madhouse animated the first season. Key returning cast members include Makoto Furukawa as Saitama, Hikaru Midorikawa as Garou, and Daisuke Namikawa as Dr. Genus.

Chikashi Kubota will once again handle character designs, joined by Shinjiro Kuroda and Ryōsuke Shirakawa. Tomohiro Suzuki is returning to oversee the series scripts, and Makoto Miyazaki will compose the music.

The first season of the anime aired in Japan from October to December 2015, with Viz Media and Daisuki streaming it internationally. It later premiered with an English dub on Adult Swim’s Toonami block in July 2016, and Viz Media released it on home video in North America.

The second season debuted with a television special in April 2019. Viz Media also held the master license for this season, distributing it across North America, Latin America, and Oceania, and streaming it exclusively on Hulu. Crunchyroll handled streaming in Europe (excluding French and German-speaking regions), the Middle East, and North Africa.

The One-Punch Man manga, a remake of ONE’s original web manga, was launched by Yūsuke Murata and ONE on Shueisha’s “Tonari no Young Jump” website in 2012. Viz Media publishes the series digitally in its Weekly Shonen Jump anthology and also releases print volumes.

In other adaptations, Sony Pictures is developing a live-action film based on the manga. In June 2022, Deadline reported that Justin Lin was set to direct. More recently, in April 2024, The Hollywood Reporter indicated that Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon and screenwriter Heather Anne Campbell are rewriting the script.
