Aichi Prefecture has announced the launch of its first international animation film festival, the Aichi-Nagoya International Animation Film Festival (ANIAAFF), scheduled to take place from December 12 to 17, 2025. Leveraging Aichi’s existing ties to animation culture through Ghibli Park and the “World Cosplay Summit,” the prefecture aims to utilize the festival for local community revitalization. Aichi Prefecture will actively support and promote the event as a member of the executive committee.
Aichi-Nagoya International Animation Film Festival Set for December 2025
The six-day festival will be hosted at the Midland Square Cinema theater and the 109 Cinemas Nagoya theater, both conveniently located near Nagoya Station. Attendees can expect a diverse program including screenings of nominated and invited animated films, keynote speeches, talk sessions, and award ceremonies.

The International Competition Section is open to animated feature films with a running time of 40 minutes or longer, completed after January 2024. Submissions from both Japanese and international creators will be accepted starting at 6:00 p.m. JST on June 11, 2025.
A press conference held on June 2, 2025, featured general producer Taro Maki, festival director Shinichiro Inoue, and artistic director Tadashi Sudo. A video of the conference is available on the festival’s official channel.
