Demon Slayer is not just getting ready for its big movie trilogy. It’s also getting a brand-new light novel. The first movie, titled Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle Movie 1 Akaza’s Return, will hit Japanese theaters on July 18, 2025. A few days later, on July 22, a special light novel will be released.
Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle: Novel Adaptation and More
The upcoming Demon Slayer light novel titled Akaza’s Return gives fans a closer look at the events of the first Infinity Castle movie.
Written by Aya Yajima with a script co-written by ufotable’s Hikaru Kondo, the novel spans around 240 pages and includes four full-color illustrations.
Rather than just summarizing the movie, it offers a scene-by-scene retelling that dives deeper into the story. It begins with Muzan Kibutsuji’s sudden attack on the Ubuyashiki estate, dragging Tanjiro and the Hashira into the eerie and dangerous Infinity Castle.
This sets the stage for one of their most intense battles yet. The novel also provides extra details and inner thoughts that might not be fully shown in the movie, making it a must-read for fans who want to experience the story on a deeper level.
It continues the storyline from the Hashira Training arc and connects directly with the upcoming film trilogy.

Releasing the novel just days after the film is a smart move that helps keep the excitement around Demon Slayer going strong. It follows a strategy similar to what was done with Mugen Train, which became a huge box office hit and also had popular companion materials.
This approach keeps fans engaged across different formats. According to Crunchyroll’s Chief Content Officer, this release is part of a large-scale global rollout, showing how anime is growing bigger in theaters around the world.
