After holding a major box office title for over seven years, Dragon Ball Super: Broly has finally been overtaken. Fans of anime films have long debated which franchises dominate theaters, and now, Detective Conan has managed to shake up the rankings with its latest movie release.

Detective Conan Breaks 7-Year Record Held by Dragon Ball

The latest Detective Conan movie, One‑Eyed Flashback, has become a huge hit in Japan. In just 52 days, it earned over ¥13.7 billion (around $87.6 million), making it one of the fastest-growing anime films in Japanese box office history.

From day one, the movie broke records. On its first day alone, it generated ¥1.05 billion (approximately $7.1 million) and attracted 690,000 viewers. That’s 109% more than what the previous film, The Million‑Dollar Pentagram, made on its opening day. Even more impressively, it crossed the ¥10 billion mark in only 19 days, quicker than any Detective Conan movie before it.

The movie’s earnings continued to rise rapidly. It reached ¥12.2 billion by day 31, ¥13.3 billion by day 38, and finally passed ¥13.7 billion by day 52. These numbers are higher than Dragon Ball Super: Broly’s earlier box office total in Japan. While Broly made around ¥13.5 billion worldwide, Conan managed to beat that just in Japan.

Fans have loved the film, with many returning to theaters to watch it again. They’ve praised the exciting mystery, strong emotional moments, and even the romantic parts of the story.

The film’s distributor, Toho, has called its performance “explosive” and believes it could make history for the franchise. Viewers say the mix of thrilling storytelling and heartfelt moments is what makes it stand out.
