Jujutsu Kaisen has made a surprise return, not as an anime, but as a brand-new sequel manga. Almost a year after the series ended in Weekly Shōnen Jump, creator Gege Akutami has brought the world back to life with a new story set many decades later.

The first chapter of this unexpected sequel is already out, giving fans a look at the next generation of sorcerers.

Jujutsu Kaisen Stuns Fans With Sequel Manga Set 68 Years Later

When Jujutsu Kaisen ended its run in Weekly Shōnen Jump in September 2024, most fans thought the story was finished. However, the series has now made a shocking return with a sequel manga. The new series is called Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo (also known as Mojuro) and officially launched on September 8, 2025.

It brings readers back to the familiar dark, supernatural world, but this time the story takes place 68 years after the events of the “Culling Game” arc.

This sequel is written by Gege Akutami and illustrated by Yuji Iwasaki, the artist behind Cipher Academy. Akutami described it as a chance to expand the story into a new era. The manga is planned as a short series, running for about six months and collected into three volumes.

The very first chapter delivers a heavy blow, revealing that Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zen’in have died. The story even begins with Yuta’s funeral. Yet their memory continues through their grandchildren, Yuta and Tsurugi Okkotsu, who are introduced as active Jujutsu sorcerers in Kyoto.

The series also confirms something fans had long hoped for: Yuta and Maki’s relationship is finally made canon. This mix of emotional moments and shocking developments sets the tone for Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo. For longtime readers and newcomers alike, the sequel provides both closure and a bold new direction, connecting the beloved past with an exciting future for the franchise.
