Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You: Release, Plot, and More

On July 18, 2025, it was officially confirmed that Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You will be turned into a TV anime, planned to air sometime in 2026. The manga first started as a webcomic in March 2022 and later began publishing in Square Enix’s Monthly Big Gangan magazine from August 2022. Since then, it has become quite popular.

The anime announcement came with the launch of a new official website and an X (formerly Twitter) account. It also featured a special illustration, likely drawn by the creator Jinushi, showing the main characters—Sasaki, a tired office worker, and Yamada/Tayama, the girl he admires.

The anime will be broadcast on the TBS channel in Japan, but there’s no exact release date, studio name, or episode count yet.

What To Expect?

In a message posted online, Jinushi shared that he is personally involved in the anime’s production. He said he wants fans to enjoy the anime just like they did with the manga and promised to stay true to the original story and emotions. His message shows that the anime will focus on keeping the same heartfelt and touching feel as the manga.

As of January 2025, the manga has six volumes. It has also won several awards, including the 2022 Next Manga Award in the web manga category, and was ranked in Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2023. It’s loved by fans and supported by publishers and bookstores alike.
