During the 2025 Japan Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm made a major expansion of the Star Wars: Visions animated anthology with the launch of Star Wars: Visions Presents. The project will introduce chosen short films from the anthology into longer formats and give fans an immersive deeper story experience. Check out the details of Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 below.
Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 Release Date
Heading the new generation of storytelling is a limited series founded on the viral episode “The Ninth Jedi.” Directed and overseen by visionary director Kenji Kamiyama, the series is set for release in 2026. Kamiyama, who specializes in complex storytelling, will take charge of the project as general director and script supervisor, working to expand upon the mythology and characters established within the original short.
Anthology Continues with Volume 3
Separate from the limited series, Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 is confirmed to debut on Disney+ on October 29, 2025. This next installment will revisit and extend the narratives of three fan-favorite shorts from the first volume—The Duel, The Village Bride, and The Ninth Jedi.

Director Takanobu Mizuno returns to continue the tale of the Ronin in The Duel: Payback. This new chapter pits the enigmatic warrior against a Jedi named Grand Master and hints at an unexpected alliance with a Sith. Character designer Takashi Okazaki will once again bring his distinctive style to the screen, featuring new designs including a Wookiee, an insectoid Huk, and a uniquely styled walker with a traditional Japanese structure atop it.
In The Lost Ones, director Hitoshi Haga picks up the story from The Village Bride, tracking the mysterious protagonist known only as “F” as she navigates the post-Order 66 galaxy, where the Jedi have nearly been eradicated.
The Ninth Jedi: Clild Of Hope
In addition to the upcoming limited series, another short titled The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope is in the works, offering a glimpse into a conflict that predates the birth of Kara, the central character of the original episode.
The anthology’s creative diversity continues with several other original shorts:
- “Yuko’s Treasure”: Directed by Masaki Tachibana, this story follows a young girl named Yuko and her gentle, bear-like guardian droid Billy, who hides a microwave oven in his belly. Their journey unfolds at the iconic Mos Eisley spaceport on Tatooine.
- “The Smuggler”: Helmed by The Elder director Masahiko Otsuka, this stand-alone tale introduces a young female thief with shades of Han Solo’s rebellious charm, set on a newly imagined planet.
- “The Bounty Hunters”: Ken Yamamoto directs this short at Wit Studio, featuring Sevn and his droid partner IV-AH4 (nicknamed Ivaho), both hired by a mysterious and charismatic client.
- “The Song of Four Wings”: From Studio Q and director Hiroyasu Kobayashi comes this tale of a royal hero who wields an R2-type droid that can change into a powered armor, mixing sci-fi adventure with royalty-fantasy.
- “Bird of Paradise”: Polygon Pictures’ Tadahiro Yoshihira delves into spirituality and myth with scenery focused on holy trees, suggesting a twin-realm tale that teases isekai (other world) storytelling.
- “Black”: This highly ambitious project is written, directed, and animated by Shinya Ōhira at david production. Having spent three years crafting the short, Ōhira’s entry is expected to deliver a deeply personal and visually distinctive experience.
With this wave of announcements, Lucasfilm emphasizes its desire to try out international animation talent and expand the Star Wars universe through varied visual and narrative approaches. As both old fans and new wait for these future tales, Visions remains a bold canvas for creative reinterpretations of a galaxy far, far away.
