A live-action movie based on the popular anime Wind Breaker has just been announced! Along with the news, a short teaser was released showing a few key visuals to give fans a sneak peek. The movie was filmed in Okinawa between February and April. The team even rented a local shopping street, transformed all the shops for the movie, and built a huge open set for the shoot.

Right after the second season of the anime finished airing, a new website and official X (formerly Twitter) account were launched to announce a live-action movie adaptation of Satoru Niis’s popular action manga. According to reports, the movie is set to hit Japanese theaters in December 2025.

The timing of this announcement matches the end of Wind Breaker Season 2, which had 12 episodes and aired during the Spring 2025 anime season. The first season originally aired on April 4, 2024.

The movie will be directed by Kentaro Hagiwara, known for his work on the live-action Tokyo Ghoul and Blue Period films. The script is written by Yosuke Masaike, who also worked on the A Girl & Her Guard Dog live-action.

Meanwhile, Wind Breaker’s manga is licensed by Kodansha USA Publishing. They’ve been releasing it digitally in English since Spring 2022. Starting in July, they’ll also begin releasing print editions monthly.

Wind Breaker is a high-energy anime based on Satoru Niis’ manga, centered around a group of delinquents who protect their town while upholding their sense of justice.

The story follows Haruka Sakura, a transfer student with a tough exterior but strong morals, as he joins the powerful Bofurin gang and faces intense street battles and rival groups.
